Dandelion coffee, made from the roasted, ground root, has long been valued for its liver-cleansing properties. Chicory also has many health benefits. Many people, who have decided not to drink coffee any more, find that they can quite happily use dandelion/chicory coffee instead.
This is the brand we serve in our dining room on all of our residential courses and is very popular with the people who attend them. It has a smoother flavour than many others.
You can make this coffee in a percolator, a saucepan or even a plunger. If you save the grounds by placing them in an airtight container in the fridge, you can use them a second time. Though the second batch will be weaker, the first batch is usually quite strong and needs some hot water to dilute it. Experience will help you to work out how you like to make it.
This brand has a long use-by date, usually over 2 years. So, providing you store it well, it will last. It is much cheaper to buy it in the 1kg bag than in smaller jars.
