Program Overview

Train to become a Mindfulness Meditation Teacher in this five day residential meditation teacher training retreat facilitated by Paul and Maia Bedson and Ruth Gawler.

The meditation teacher's training will enable you to deliver a six-week Mindfulness-based Stillness Meditation Course from a facilitator's manual.

Through this five day teacher training you will gain:

  • Practice in teaching and leading Mindfulness-based Stillness meditation (MBSM).
  • A comprehensive background knowledge of the benefits of Mindfulness meditation for healing, personal development and spirituality.
  • A solid framework for teaching and developing the foundations of MBSM practice.
  • An understanding of the strengths and limitations of the thinking mind, and the causes of excessive thinking.
  • An understanding of the effects of excessive thinking on mind, emotions, body and spirit.
  • An overview of the stress response, the relaxation response and their impact on health and healing.
  • Guidelines for leading meditation using intention: Gratitude and Loving Kindness.
  • The application of mindfulness to emotions like grief, anxiety and depression.
  • Useful insights into the links between meditation, neuroscience and neuroplasticity.
  • Experience and an understanding of the importance of 'stillness' and 'spaciousness'.

A manual willl be provided with the course.

Format

You will learn to teach the six week MBSM Course which covers the following topics:

Week 1: Preparation for Meditation. Relaxation. Concentration. Mindfulness of Breath. An overview of healing. The stress and relaxation responses. The nature of the thinking mind. The two aspects of mind. Excessive thinking.

Week 2: Mindfulness of Body. Mindfulness of thoughts. The difference between awareness and thinking. Resistances to meditation and antidotes. Mind-Body medicine.

Week 3: Mindfulness of Emotions. The cognitive and affective aspects of emotion. Healthy emotions. Connecting with feelings.

Week 4: Meditation using intention: Gratitude and Loving Kindness.

Week 5: Mindfulness into Stillness. The nature of Stillness. Stillness and Movement.

Week 6: The complete Mindfulness-based Stillness Meditation practice.

Entry criteria for this training: your own regular meditation practice.
